Getting experimental with the media...

8mm Celluloid Experiment: When trying to create a 'moving image,' we inevitably got as artsy as we conceivably could, because why not? We intended to reduce the moving image back one of its earliest forms, and in doing so, ignited a projector, and then created a back-up plan. In doing so, however, we created some pretty cool things: scratching the celluloid, writing on it, and eventually looping it round a coffee canister in order to film it. We had taken inspiration for this project from the works of Jennifer West's Nirvana - which similarly features the use of destructive materials coming into contact with the celluloid itself. We were all interested, as a group, in the idea of using raw film material as a canvas to insert our own images on-top of rather than within. Due to the previously mentioned unexpected bout of fire, and the possibility we wouldn't be able to eventually play the film using the projector, (which is now back in good health- fret not, friends,) we've ended up with some pretty cool variations - have a wee photo of one filmed through a broken magnifying glass, courtesy of Maren.
