Test Shooting.

Updated: Jan 28, 2019

Over reading week I did some test shots focussing mainly on characters entering the frame. I also tried to replicate the Tarantino low angles that I had found influential in my initial thinking of the visual attributes of the final project I hope to produce. I experimented with mise-en-scene and tested shots with objects in the background, especially trees and branches as I appreciated the natural movement they added to the shots. As the shots were static and the characters move into the frame, I liked the idea of additional movement to contrast the camera position. I also tried out a classic Scorsese reverse tracking shot, which ultimately failed tremendously without the use of a dolly - however, with the help of an escalator with some fortunately beautiful lighting, I managed to then experiment with focusing in and out, manually. This led to a discovery that I actually enjoyed the out of focus shots as they added an element of ambivalence over characters; a concept and aesthetic I feel I may be able to use to my advantage in my project - and potentially may incorporate into my representation of the 'alien' characters in the film. I'll attach a link - Let me know what you think!
